When people go on a diet, there are many options to choose from. Like any billion dollar industry, someone is always trying to come up with a new innovative idea so they can claim their piece of the cake. One idea that might need re-looked at is the fat-free diet. Our body inherently needs fats for many different processes in the body, especially in neurological and brain health. Some people even suggest that low cholesterol is associated with increased risk for Alzheimer’s.

We must be able to differentiate between good fat and bad fat to make the most of this principle. Good fats can be found in a variety of products such as olives, avocados, nuts and fish. Many people opt to get Omega 3 fatty acids through fish oils to ensure that they are getting the right fats. Omegas 3’s have also been shown to likely improve mental health, decrease the risk for heart disease and decrease inflammation. Taking in healthy fats can help you maintain your health while still losing weight. It is important to not let the aesthetic desires of weight loss get in the way of the health benefits.
