Sleep and Pain

Many people notice that they are irritable when they do not sleep well, but there is more to this issue than we realize. A recent study out of Norway found that decreased level of sleep and sleep quality was related to an increased sensitivity to pain. The study found a much closer link than they expected. About 35 participants were used and researchers are hoping to dig even further to understand the neurology involved. While we as your wellness providers preach the importance of sleep, it is also necessary to take note of this correlation for our pain reduction goals. Everyone needs a different amount of sleep, but most likely it is about 7-9 hours per night to prevent future health issues, pain and stress. Don’t let your crazy busy life fool you into going to bed too late this time of year. Ask your chiropractor about ways to improve sleep at your next visit.
