136 PEOPLE DIE OF OPIOID USE EVERY DAY IN THE US

September is drug-free pain management month. Chiropractic is a foundational part of drug-free pain management. We are trying to raise awareness that there are many different ways to treat and manage pain beside using drugs.

Opioids are the most notorious form of pain management that has been used for decades. While they have helped many people, there are some staggering numbers that demonstrate the risk of opioids.

136 people in the US die EACH DAY from opioid use. That equals close to 50,000 people per year in the US.

This number has quadrupled in the last 10 years.

Opioid misuse costs the US about $78.5 billion each year.

Overdose numbers have tragically jumped during the COVID pandemic.

Many of us have personally seen people’s lives ruined and even ended by opioid misuse.

What can you do about it?

  1. Ask a friend or family member if they want to talk about their pain.

  2. Give the recommendation to attempt drug-free pain management such as chiropractic, massage, and acupuncture.

  3. Contact someone for help if you suspect that a friend is using drugs in a way that could cause physical harm. You can call the SAMHSA’s National Helpline at 1-800-662-HELP
